Osteopathy is suitable for all ages and across a wide range of problems; Our varied techniques allow us to treat the elderly to the new born and from pregnant women to sports enthusiasts. Using many conventional medical procedures and clinical tests to assess and diagnose, we will be able to recognise at consultation whether your problem is suitable for osteopathic treatment.
Osteopaths may use manipulation (the ‘click’), stretching, rhythmic movements and massage to improve function of joints, muscles and ligaments which can ultimately influence the whole health of a person. The aim is to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, helping your body’s own healing mechanisms.
Remedial Massage
Sports massage, deep tissue massage or remedial massage as the name suggests – a remedy for tight and shortened muscles that is deeper than more of the superficial massages available. Using a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology, the massage therapist is able to focus on specific musculoskeletal conditions which may cause pain and discomfort. The aim of deep tissue massage is to initiate a change in the muscle fibres, fascia and connective tissue so that function is restored and symptoms alleviated.
The massage therapist employs a dedicated set of techniques and strokes to achieve relief and helps to improve joint function by releasing the restriction of tight muscles and fascia and also helps to improve blood and lymphatic flow to tissues.
Deep tissue massage can be carried out as an adjunct to osteopathy or as a stand-alone treatment.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
Emotional freedom technique (EFT) is an alternative treatment for physical pain and emotional distress. It’s also referred to as tapping or psychological acupressure. EFT draws on various theories of alternative medicine including acupuncture, neuro-linguistic programming, energy medicine, and Thought Field Therapy.
People who use this technique believe tapping the body can create a balance in your energy system and treat pain. According to its developer, Gary Craig, a disruption in energy is the cause of all negative emotions and pain.
Though still being researched, EFT tapping has been used to treat people with anxiety and people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
